Writing a recount

We are learning to write a recount. Room 4 went on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens last week. We wrote about where we went, what we did, who we went with and when we went. After we wrote our stories, we published them. We used Kidpix to make a picture which matches our story. It is tricky remembering everything to put in our story sometimes. We are proud of our publishing.

On Tuesday we went to Botanical Gardens. Mrs Bovill and me and Athena and Levi smelt some lovely flowers and we went to the boat and tent. We went to the bridge. It has some water under the bridge. I saw some ducks are swimming. By Irene.

Making pizza

Yummy! We made pizzas to celebrate the end of our inquiry on wellbeing. We were learning about compost and how we can use it in our garden to grow some healthy vegetables. We then used these vegetables to add flavour to our pizzas.

Telling the time

We are learning to tell the time. We made watches today. It was fun. First we wrote the missing numbers onto the watch. Then we decorated the watches. Next we drew on a little hand and big hand. We chose our favourite time of day. Mrs Bovill recorded us reading our watches.

It is tricky to draw the little hand. I am proud that I did it all by myself.

Skip counting in 2's

I am learning to skip count in 2's. I had to put the counters on all the 2's. I am proud of my counting. I am learning to skip count so I can count quickly. It is tricky to skip count when I get to bigger numbers. Next, I could learn to skip count in 5's or 10's.

Kandinsky flowers

Room 4’s masterpieces are inspired by Kandinsky’s painting ‘Squares with Concentric Circles’. We really loved how Kandinsky experimented with the use of colour. Our paintings are our own experiments with colour and inspired by Kandinsky’s painting above. First, we had to choose our favourite primary colour to paint our background with. We then blended two primary colours at the top and bottom of the page to create a secondary colour and an interesting background for our own circles. If we used a warm background, we needed to try and use cooler colours for our circles. We really like our paintings because viewers can decide whether our circles are flowers in a field, balloons in the sky or lollipops in a shop!! We love using our imagination.

Describing words

I am learning to use describing words to make my story exciting. I am so proud that I can use describing words and that I am trying my best. I am proud that my story makes sense. It can be tricky to sound out describing words. The next steps for me might be to read my story again and add more describing words. I could look at pictures for ideas of describing words and read more poems and books.

"Happy is a describing word."

Sounding out words

I am learning to sound out words. I have been listening for the middle sound. I needed to find the missing letter. I know the missing sound because listened to the word and looked at the picture. It was tricky to find the missing sound when it was four letters. I am proud when I make the word.

My scooter skills story

This is my published recount about when I brought my scooter to school for a scooter skills clinic. I had to write a story about what I learnt or liked. I am learning to use capital letters at the start of my story and at the start of a new sentence. I am proud when I remember to use a capital letter in my story. It is tricky remembering where to put it sometimes. Next time I could try using a full stops in my story too.

Rhyming words

I am learning about rhyming words. I played a game. I needed to find a picture that rhymes with the ones at the top. Van rhymed with pan. This is easy for me because I can sound it out. It makes me proud because it is easy and I can match the pictures.

Ordering numbers 1-10

I am learning to order numbers from smallest to biggest in the range of 1-10. I had to put the caterpillar's body inside the caterpillar from little to biggest. It was tricky to sometimes put them in order.I am proud that I made the caterpillar go in the right order. The next step for me might be to practice my numbers that come before and after other numbers.
